Why was Caroline’s body transferred to Umash?

Since February 7th the boy of Dandora based activist was lying unidentified at the City Mortuary until 12th April when it was discovered, according to police source.

The family has on Thursday 14th moved the body to Umash Funeral home, two days after the corpse was found.

Were there any initial plans of transferring the body before the strike hit the Morgue? Or was it a coincidence? It was not immediately clear whether the strike was the sole cause.

The morgue is popularly known as the destination for dumping unidentified bodies as well as murder related bodies by the police. The morgue condition is also said to be in a sorry state.

Family sources have not taken a clear position on the matter.

Ms Mwatha’s body was found at City Mortuary on Tuesday close to a week after she went missing.

Police have since then arrested six people in connection with the mysterious death of human rights activist Caroline Mwatha.

According to the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti, Ms. Mwatha died as a result of botched abortion procedure at a clinic within Dandora Phase 1 in Nairobi on February 6, 2019 — the day she went missing.

Mr. Kinoti said Ms. Mwatha died in the clinic and the body was transferred to the Nairobi City Mortuary on February 7, 2019 at 4:42a.m.

“On February 6, 2019, Caroline went to a clinic known as New Njiru Community Centre within Dandora Phase 1. It is believed an abortion procedure was procured by the owner of the clinic namely Betty Akinyi Nyanya alias Betty Ramoya and one purported ‘Dr’ Michael Onchiri Dr. Mike,” read the statement in part.
