Arsenal travel to face BATE in the UEFA Europa League knockout stage on Thursday evening looking to add on to their perfect start in the competition that has seen the Gunners remain unbeaten in the competition so far.
However, there has been one strange omission form the Arsenal squad that traveled: German midfielder Mesut Ozil. The attacking midfielder missed last Weekend’s Premier League win over Huddersfield with an illness but so did striker Pierre Aubameyang who has since been declared fit to travel and face BATE.

On the official Arsenal Website, Mesut Ozil was declared fully fit an even trained with the first team squad for the whole week, so why did he not make the trip? There might be a slight chance that Ozil is yet to fully recover form the illness that kept him outlast week but any Arenal fan will knows that the German and Head Coach Unai Emery do not see eye to eye.
Mesut Ozil has barely featured for Arsenal this season and whenever he gets the chance, he rarely completes the full 90. It is clear that Unai Emery does not see Mesut as being part of his long term plans hence his continued absence from the team. The Spanish does not play with a number 10 in his team and Mesut Ozil is probably the only player in World Football who is a pure number 10, play him in any other position and you will be left disappointed.
Ozil’s omission is clear sign to him and everyone at Arsenal that he is not needed at the club so long as Unai Emery is the head coach. He is the Cubs highest earner and for him to not play means the club is wasting a lot of money. To put it quite simple, Mesut Ozil’s salary can pay 5 Torreiras! The club needs to find a buyer for the midfielder so they can free up that massive salary and re invest in a player whom Unai Emery trusts to implement his style of football.
Mesut Ozil’s career is on it’s deathbed and his exclusion from the travelling squad to Face BATE might be the final nail on his coffin!
