Pomp and colour as Alliance Girls’ mark Valentine’s Day in style

Students at Alliance Girls’ got a rare treat when the school bought Valentine’s Day cakes and flowers for all the students.

The girls got the surprise treat after parents contributed cash between Sh300-Sh500 to cover the lavish party on Thursday morning.

Alliance Girls’ School was  the first purely girls’ schools in the history of Kenya. The school’s first alumni are either deep into retirement or deceased.

About Alliance Girl’s School

At the schools’ founding in 1948, it only admitted white girls under then principal Jean Wilkinson (1948-1954).

The school’s first Kenyan principal was Joan Waithaka, who took reigns of the school six years after Independence in 1969. She left the school as an administrator in 1984.

The current principal Ms Virginia Gitonga presided over the colourful event which potentially left most city girls’ school chocking with envy.

With all the four forms having a total of eight streams, the girls might have at least had a total of 32 cakes to celebrate the love event. We could, however, not confirm the number of cakes but they were enough for both teachers, non-academic staffers and students

Men’s conference

Meanwhile, a section of Kenyan men are planning to attend a ‘men’s conference’ leaving ladies stranded ahead of the globally-marked lovers’ day.

Are you celebrating or have you gone for the men’s conference too?
