Of false witnesses and deadly police cover-ups

The twisty case against Ex-police boss Nahashon Mutua has brought into sharp focus the morality of the Kenyan police and a host of other civilian false witnesses.

In the case where the former Ruaraka OCS drubbed a detainee with a metal rod and left him for dead proved to the whole world how cunning people can get.

Should false witnesses be charged with obstruction?

A section of Kenyans have called for the prosecution of false witnesses who had lined up to testify to the court how innocent the convicted police boss was.

In the case, where Kevin Odhiambo, a detainee at Ruaraka police station was framed by convicted murderer Nahashon Mutua, police had lined up 21 witnesses including detainees and police officers.

At some point during the investigations, Constable Kennedy Simiyu, had testified that his boss, the OCS, was not at Ruaraka Police Station when the incident took place.

Should he be paid damages?

After the court found the former Ruaraka OCS guilty, focus has turned to the witnesses that caused trauma and public humiliation to Mr Kevin Odhiambo.

Will he paid for damages? That is the question that now lingers in the thoughts of most people.

Mr Kevin Odhiambo had to battle with a case he knew nothing about until the truth finally showed up.

IPOA explained that the man in the dock was the wrong one, and recommended that the officer in charge of Ruaraka Police Station, Mr Nahashon Mutua, be charged with the murder.
