Justice has come with a loud bhang after in rare rulings, former Ruaraka OCS Nahashon Mutua has been sentenced to death for fatal inmate torture six years back where the High Court found him guilty of killing Martin Koome in 2013.
“The Prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the police caused the deceased suffering while in cells which caused his death,” Lady Justice Stella Mutuku ruled on Thursday.
Mutua had denied killing Koome in a police cell on December 19, 2013.Following the death, Mr Mutua hatched a scheme to cover-up the murder by implicating Mr Koome’s cellmate with the killing.
He told the court that Koome was beaten up by cellmates for noise making minutes after he was booked
The deceased was allegedly hit several times with a rod and his head immersed in water. He was locked up in the cell even after sustaining serious injuries.
However, the judge found the officer guilty after listening and analysing evidence by 18 prosecution witnesses.
Kenyans have celebrated since the news flowed in saying the sentencing is good riddance.
