The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions together with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is probing three Cabinet Secretaries suspected to have received bribes in Rome, Italy.
Reports by the Standard Newspaper claimed that the three CSs were in a group of government officials who received kickbacks from contractors.
It was reported that the 3 CSs together with other state officials received kickbacks from a contractor who was eventually awarded State projects which cost up to Ksh7 billion.
The directors of the Italian firm were summoned by the DCI where they recorded their statements.
“Some of the things they do in Kenya they can’t do in their own countries,” DPP Haji was quoted stating.
He further added that his office was investigating several claims by the contractors and the allegations against them, including corruption and blackmail.
According to reports State projects are stalled due to the illegal 10 percent that officials ask for.
Mr Kinoti said the DCI was looking into contracts that had stalled at various stages.
Powerful individuals, Cabinet, principal secretaries and parastatal chiefs mainly handling key infrastructural projects, were put on the spot by the DPP over the same.
This information came to light on Wednesday after Interior CS Fred Matiang’i chaired a meeting between contractors, top Government officials where foreign contractors were warned they would be jailed or deported if found guilty for bribing public officers.
