Chief Pathologist Moot the Decision to Transfer Mwatha’s Body to Another Facility Following Morgue Attendants’ Strike

A long-awaited postmortem that was to be conducted on the body former Dandora human rights activist Caroline Mwatha was again delayed on Thursday morning.

City Mortuary attendants who are currently on strike did not show up to the facility, prompting Chief Government pathologist, Dr Johansen Oduor, to moot the possibility of transferring the body to another equipped centre.

Ms Mwatha, an activist, went missing on Wednesday, February 6 and her disappearance reported on Friday, February 8.

It is unclear what caused her death as her body was only found at the city mortuary after being taken there by a private citizen on Tuesday, February 12.

Initially, the autopsy was to be conducted on Wednesday, February 13, but did not take place because Dr. Oduor was not available.

However, Chief Pathologist Dr Oduor availed himself on Thursday, February 14 in the morning only to find that the mortuary attendants are on strike.

Ms Mwatha’s death now remains a mystery as the police claims that she died after a botched arbotion- a claim that the family member have refuted claiming that they have never seen their daughter pregnant.

At the moment, six people suspected to be involved in her death are in police custody including her alleged lover and quack doctor who is alleged to have carried out the abortion.
