The futuristic shoes, which go on sale for $350 on Feb. 17, alternate between boa constrictor-tight and comfy slipper loose. They also come complete with an app were you could adjust the themes you want and how tight you want your shoes.

The future is in apps

Nike joins the other apparel companies like Under Armour and Puma who have infused technology in their clothing.

Speaking during the launch, Nike engineer said that the future is with the apps.

“Going forward in the future, the app will be that bridge to the powered athlete,” said Jordan Rice, Nike’s director of smart systems engineering.

Battery

The shoes come with two batteries for a pair. The app monitors battery power, and it also comes with a charging mat. A full charge takes 3-4 hours.

Security concerns

While everyone will be trouping Nike outlets on the 17th of February to buy the self-tying Nike, experts have raised concerns with the proliferation of IoT devices. The devices like smart watches have in the past been hacked to reveal location, running paths and confidential health information
