Mbappe now matches Ronaldo’s champions league record

After PSG’s dominant win yesterday at Old Trafford 20-year-old Kylian Mbappe recorded a high total of 14 goals equaling the record of one the greatest Brazilian players of all time. Kylian Mbappé scored PSG’s second goal of the day and with this goal, he tied Ronaldo’s (the Brazilian one) UCL goal total of 14. This is impressive considering how young Kylian Mbappé is.

In the absence of stalwarts Edinson Cavani and Neymar, France’s World Cup hero Kylian Mbappe stepped up to put the final nail in the coffin and thereby end Manchester United’s boastful run under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Presnel Kimpembe and Mbappe scored the goals on Tuesday night at Old Trafford as PSG left the Red Devils with a task cut out for the second leg in the Champions League round-of-16. And with the goal, Mbappe equalled the Brazilian Ronaldo’s UCL goals tally.

After a disappointing first half for either side, PSG struck twice before the hour mark. Kimpembe volleyed home the opener from a corner in the 53rd minute before Mbappe doubled the lead seven minutes later after finishing the low cross from former Manchester United player Angel Di Maria. Things turned worse for the home team as Paul Pogba was shown the red card for his foul against Dani Alves in the 89th minute leaving him out of United’s second-leg game.

The 0-2 loss implied United’s first loss under caretaker manager Solskjaer ending his unbeaten run since his appointment in December. After the match, former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for Mbappe giving him the ultimate compliment where he compared him to the Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

“This is what you come to watch,” said the BT Sport pundit. “We’re sitting in here saying ‘oh my god, I can’t wait to see this boy. I think he is the nearest thing I’ve seen to Ronaldo, the Brazilian one If you watch these clips here, every single clip his first touch is what sets him apart. Forget about his pace, his skills, his goals, but his first touch. Look at this, takes the defender out of the game.” “He doesn’t know about pressure, he goes out there like he’s playing football in his backyard. He’s ridiculous,” he concluded
