Court Allows for the Detention of Six Suspects Linked to Mwatha’s Death

A Makadara court has allowed an application by the prosecution to detain six suspects linked to the death of Dandora Human Rights activist Caroline Mwatha for 14 days.

The prosecution had applied to have the six suspects; Michael Onchiri, Betty Akinyi, Richard Ramoya, Alexander Gitau, Georgia Achieng and Stephen Maina to be held longer over their safety and to also allow police more time to carry out investigations.

Appearing before Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga, the suspects were allowed to be detained at various police stations which will only be disclosed to their families and lawyers.

Dandora human rights activist Mwatha, who went missing last week, was found dead on Tuesday afternoon when her body was found at the City Mortuary in Nairobi.

According to reports, her body was booked at the mortuary by a private citizen who is yet to be identified.

Mwatha’s neighbours said that the activist was last seen on Wednesday February 6 when she went missing with her phone switched off.

The case was later reported at Buru Buru Police Station on Friday, February 8.
