List of those Who Can Win Nigeria’s Presidential Seat

With the oncoming Saturday election in Nigeria, more than 70 candidates had shown their interest for the presidential seat when the campaign began.

However, only two from the main political parties will have a real shot of becoming the next president of the famous, highly populated African nation, Nigeria.

The incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice president Atiku Abubakar are the two main contestants of the seat.

While many other contestants are regarded as civil right groups, their chances of clinching the seat are very slim without depending on the parties led by the two main contenders.

President Muhammadu Buhari 76, made history in 2015 when he democratically ousted the incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan. He is vying for the second term as president and he is the presidential candidate for All Progressives Congress (APC). This is his fifth run for the seat.

His agenda and reputation of fighting corruption was the key factor that led to his victory in the last election.

Buhari spent his career in the army , serving as military dictator after the 1983 coup. He had hard policies that didn’t even please the military figures who installed him the position. But his anti-corruption catchet remained tightened and led to his victory over Jonathan Goodluck whose party had been in power since 1999

During his tenure, he suffered a serious ailment that saw him out of the country for five months in 2017. Despite that, he announced his plan to run again, which left people with many questions whether he will manage. He confirmed his capability.

Atiku, on the other side, is a candidate on a People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku sought the presidential ticket in 2015 against Buhari and lost. He threw his support then to Buhari- financially. He later switche in 2017 and decided to vie for the seat through PDP.

The former Vice president has been accused of many corruption cases, which he has all denied.

However, th his supporters, Atiku has an economic credentials and is a serious businessman who is capable of boosting Nigeria’s economy by creating jobs and attracting investors.

The battle is now left to Nigerians to decide.
