Security lapse cause changes among county bosses

Principal Secretary, Karanja Kibicho announced new changes on four county commissioners who were moved.

Kajiado County Commissioner David Kipkemei was moved to the Office of the President, Harambee House to wait new assignments.He was replaced by Nakuru’s Joshua Nkanatha while Transnzoia’s Erastus Mbui was named the new Nakuru County Commissioner.

Naivasha deputy County boss was named the acting Transnzoia boss.

Officials said Kipkemei was moved over a security lapse at a presidential event on February 3 while in Kajiado in a security lapse. The said lapse happened as President Kenyatta arrived from Arusha through Namanga border and later toured various projects in Kajiado.

He was summoned to Harambee House where he was informed of his mistake on February 4 before he was moved.The changes are part of ongoing restructuring processes in the provincial administration.

The former provincial administration was restructured to accommodate the new commissioners.This followed the ushering of the 2010 constitution. The RCs replaced Provincial Commissioners in the new dispensation. They chair and coordinate national government issues in their regions including security matters.

National Administration is one of the Departments in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government with a staff compliment of 12,575, which includes eight Regional Coordinators, 47 County Commissioners, 289 Deputy County Commissioners, 831 Assistant County Commissioners, 3,256 Chiefs and 8,145 Assistant Chiefs.
