Omtatah Back in Court Over State Latest Appointments

Activist Okiya Omtatah has filed a new case in High Court in order to block the appointments that the state made last week.

Okiya, a man who has been linked to court in many occasion and even mocked by the people to build a house in court compound, is not happy again with how the President has conducted his recent appointments.

According to Okiya, the appointments to Board of State Corporations were not done on merits as directed by the court.

He therefore seeks to convince the court to annul the appointments made by the president last week.

Okiya uses the reference made by the employment court directing that all state appointments be done on merit.

The appointments done by the state on 4th and 8th saw that the appointees including former Laikipia Governor, Joshua Irungu serve a three-year term- that is till February 2022.

Other beneficiaries include sports legend Paul Tergat, who was appointed as the chairman of Kenya Academy of Sports Council, Joe Mutambu was appointed as the chairperson of Water Resource Authority among others.

The constitution mandates that all state appointments should be published in a gazette notice, therefore, it was appropriate for the appointments to be carried out in a period between 7th and 8th February.

It can also be remembered that the court ruled as unconstitutional the recruitment of commissioners to the National Cohesion and Intergration Commission(NCIC), the petition which was also filed by Okiya Omtatah
