An armed herder

What is the price of human life? That is the million dollar question that not many people have answers. What we know is that our security forces should protect human life at all costs.

A new expose, has however revealed that the police are doing the exact opposite of what they are mandated to do. Investigations reveal that security forces have been fueling the notorious Samburu clashes between local communities.

According to Daily Nation, the police are selling bullets for as little as KSH. 450 in the northern town of Maralal. The writer said that the bullets were so easy to acquire that he bought three in less than 30 minutes.

“All the bullets have Kenya Ordinance Factory Corporation (KOFC) labels.” Says the Daily Nation writer. He added that any bandit can get the deadly AK-47 rifle for 130,000.

This means each of the bullets is capable of ending the life of an innocent child grazing livestock or walking to school or a mother fetching water or others who travel on the dangerous highway.

Police in Maralal town are said to sell bullets to middlemen, who later sell them to armed herders in the vast Marti Esiteti forest and other desolate areas for profit.

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has been speaking tough on gun ownership. We hope he will reign on these rogue officers
