The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), on Friday, fired back to reports of a street racing event scheduled to take place over the weekend.
In a statement, the authority disassociated itself from the Safety Tarmac Autocross race organized by Extreme Performance scheduled to take place at Moi Stadium in Kasarani. NTSA noted that the event had not been approved as claimed in the promotional material.
“This is to inform members of the public that NTSA disassociates itself from this activity. The authority has not approved it as alleged by the organizers,” the authority stated.
According to the organizers, 50 cars across East Africa are expected to participate in this month’s edition of the Safety Tarmac Autocross competition.
In an earlier interview, the event’s director, Andrew Muiruri stated that only drivers who had complied with NTSA regulations would be allowed to compete in the event adding that safety was a priority.
He added that NTSA inspectors would be on location to carry out mandatory alco-blow tests to all participants.
Another safety regulation mandatory for drivers was having crash helmets.
“We are committed to road safety and supports NTSA achieve their objective of keeping our roads safe,” he affirmed.
In January, the inaugural event was held at the same venue attracting 30 drivers from Subaru, Mitsubishi, Honda, and BMW stables.
The competition runs for two days with the first holding the time-trials while in the final day spectators are treated to head-to-head competitions.
