Why smoking weed could be good for you

Bhang commonly known for its high experience on its users, researchers now reveal that taking the drug could be the reason to feeling happy.

A recent study conducted at Harvard has revealed that men who have smoked weed at least once in the past have higher sperm counts than their ‘holy’ compatriots.

Over 600 men were studied for a period of two decades at a reproductive health clinic. Wow! Who knew?

The result was in blunt contrast to the expectations that weed would have adverse effects on reproductive health.
“These surprising results highlight how little we truly know about the effects of marijuana on reproductive health and as a matter of fact the health effects of the drug in general,” Dr. Jorge Chavarro, the lead scientist conducting the study, said.

For the study, over 1,000 samples were taken from 662 men between the year 2000 and 2017. The men, who were all in their mid-thirties, all belonged to couples that were looking for professional help in conception.

Interestingly, upon analyzing the samples, it was found that the men who had previously smoked marijuana had an average sperm count of 62.7 million/ml (million per milliliter) whereas the non-smokers had average sperm concentrations of 45.4 million/ml. Those who used more marijuana were also found to have more of the male hormone testosterone.

Dr. Feiby Nassan, one of the research team’s members, however, argued that the findings might simply be due to the fact that men with more testosterone have a higher propensity towards engaging in risky activities that include smoking marijuana.

Dr. Nassan further said that he is not convinced that marijuana has any real reproductive health benefits and as such, couples that are trying to conceive babies should not look to it as a plausible solution to their fertility problem.

He cautioned that the medical community and the world should treat the results of the
study with skepticism until they are proved beyond doubt.

The findings are “not consistent” with previous research, which has suggested that marijuana has a harmful effect on men’s testicular function, the researchers said.

However, the study, published in the Feb. 6 issue of the journal Human Reproduction, doesn’t mean men should start smoking pot to up their sperm counts.

Marijuana plant and its products are prohibited by Kenyan law under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropics Substances (Control) Act, 1994.
