Students brutal murder takes JKUAT students to the streets

Students from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) main campus in Nairobi staged a demonstration after the brutal killing of their colleague.

Tabitha Muthoni Mwangi, a First Year Student, was stabbed in the neck during a robbery leading to her death. The incident is said to have occurred on Thursday night between 7 and 8pm.

It led to a massive uproar as students took to the streets on Friday morning demanding for justice.

JKUAT students union boss Ibrahim Boru lamented the killing, urging the area security forces to hasten the investigations and bring Tabitha’s killers to book.

His sentiments were echoed by the student union Secretary General Alexander Oucha who also condemned the incident and cited two other similar cases that are apparently yet to be resolved.

The university administration has since released a statement saying police have taken the deceased’s body to the Kenyatta University mortuary after the next of kin were notified.

“The extremely brutal manner in which Tabitha’s life was snuffed has understandably caused anxiety among JKUAT students and staff. The University is ready to work with security agents in Juja to investigate the incident and bring the culprits of this heinous crime to book. We urge our students to remain calm as police discharge their mandate,” reads the statement.
