Njoki Chege in trouble over ‘Prophet’ Owuor remarks

Barely a month after making a public announcement that she would mellowing, bad girl Njoki Chege is at it again; this time more scathing than ever before! Does she ever keep her word?

In what appears to be withdrawal symptoms from a formerly ballsy and unflinching ‘City Girl’, her ‘sickness’ is back, and resoundingly so.

Who will stop Njoki Chege?

While a section of Kenyans have in many instances tried to bell this feisty cat, she seems not to have any chills at all.

The nearest to cutting her down to size came on the 18th of January this year when Njoki agreed to be more friendly and courteous.

In one of her admissions, Njoki Chege said she had become a butt for many jokes, a punching bag, in fact. All these she said was due to her weekly column in one of the local Kenyan dailies.

Does she ever keep her word?

For a lady who is currently undertaking her doctorate studies, a majority of Kenyans seem to have been pleased with her good gesture of taking a break, or better yet embracing a go-slow.

But just like the typical politician, you can’t just take Njoki’s words to the bank! She reared her plucky weave once more in a no-holds-barred article titled: “It is time to rein in these religious quacks”, published in the Saturday Nation of February 2.

In the article, Njoki seems to have rubbed a section of faithful loyalists of ‘Prophet’ Owuor the wrong way. For the better part of this week, the City Girl has been trending for all the wrong reasons.

Defamation

According to the law, section 5B of the Kenya Information and Communications (Amendment) Act states that the right to freedom of expression shall not extend to advocacy of hatred that constitutes vilification of other persons or incitement to cause harm.

Similarly, Sections 194, 195, 197, and 200 of the Penal Code criminalise the publishing of defamatory information with intent to defame a person.

While the Dr Owuor may not particularly be as clean as his followers seem to think, Njoki would be seriously burdened to prove her allegations.
