Messi Overtakes Ronaldo as the Highest Paid Footballer in the World

Barcelona’s star, Lionel Messi has been declared as the highest paid footballer ahead of his arch-rival Christiano Ronaldo.

According to a publication by L’EQUIPE, Messi bags in €8.3 million a month, while Ronaldo’s salary equaling €4.7m.

The French publication released its annual report of the top ten highest-paid footballers in the world and it did not come as a surprise to see the two stars leading the list.

The report shows that the five among the top paid footballers play in Spain, one representative comes from Italy and two each from France and England. Bundesliga, however, did not have any representative.

Messi, who is currently the highest paid player signed a new contract with the Catalans in 2017, which is the main reason behind his success over Ronaldo.

Ronaldo, who moved from Real Madrid to Juventus, is ranked second with a monthly earning of €4.1m before tax, with French Atletico Madrid player, Antoine Griezmann being third with a monthly salary of € 2.9m.

The most expensive player in the world Neymar, comes in fourth with Paris-Saint Germaine paying him  a salary of € 2.9 per month.

The first premier league representative is Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez, who bags a monthly salary of € 2.28m per month.

According to the List, 10 best paid footballers include:

2) Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) – £4.1m

3) Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid) – £2.9m

4) Neymar (PSG) – £2.7m

5) Luis Suarez (Barcelona) – £2.5m

6) Gareth Bale (Real Madrid) – £2.2m

7) Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona) – £2m

8) Alexis Sanchez (Manchester United) – £2m

9) Kylian Mbappe (PSG) – £1.5m

10) Mesut Ozil (Arsenal) – £1.4m

The figures show how amazingly players of this generation are paid huger amounts as compared to previous ones. However, these figures are expected to increase with the development of football.
