Taxi driver who transported Mary Wambui’s body to remain in custody for seven more days

 

A third suspect in the murder of Mary Wambui Kamangara, will be in police custody for seven more days, pending investigations.

Police investigations on the brutal killing of Wambui bore some results on Monday, after they captured one taxi driver, Michael Githae Mathenge whom they suspect moved the deceased body from Four Ways Junction to Juja.

According to police, Micheal  runs Mipals Travel Adventures and Hire located along Kimathi Lane, Nairobi. Judy Wangui Mungai, who is the other murder suspect is said to have known the taxi driver since 2016.

Wangui used to hire cars from Michael, and on this particular day got a KCE series, which she used to drive in Wambui’s home and later on said it failed to start.

The taxi driver appeared before Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo but did not take a plea. However, he mitigated to be set free as claimed that there were no significant reasons to continue being held in custody by police.

Ms Atambo dismissed the request and said the matter ‘cumbersome.’

Investigating Officer Cornelius Arwasa told the court that they are in possession of evidence “showing the respondent [Mr Githae] was in Four Ways Junction Estate during the suspected time of the [murder] and that he was in constant communication with another suspect Judy Wangui Mungai on the night of January 26 up to about 3am on January 27.”

“We [also] have evidence showing the respondent [Mr Githae] went to Juja area where the body of the deceased was discovered later that day [January 27],” he emphasised.

Michael revealed to the police that Wangui had called him and had promised to offer him a job later in the day.

Along Thika Road was found Wambui’s body and her Mercedes Benz, registration number KCC 068U found in Kwa Maiko market, Githunguri.

Police are carrying on investigations with Michael in their custody.
