Kenyatta directs the formation of Multi-Agency Team to deliver on a single revenue collection system

President Kenyatta has today asked the CRA, the KRA, Council of Governors and the National Treasury to form a Multi-Agency Team whose principal aim shall be to deliver on a single revenue collection system, that is integrated with National Government Systems and to be used across all 47 Counties.

Kenyatta was  at the KICC to receive a status update on the Joint National and Resource Mapping (JNAM) project.

The head of state mentioned that  the survey and mapping projects are necessary because Kenya has relied on inaccurate and outdated maps for too long, for the physical planning, boundaries and demarcation processes, mapping of natural resources and other planning requirements.

JNAM is a multi agency project launched last year to develop and facilitate the provision of secure up-to-date geospatial data at minimum cost.

The President lauded the multi-agency team that has been handling the project for delivering the results at a minimal cost and within a short period.

He also mentioned that Kenya’s projections had indicated the production of a single map sheet would cost Sh.148 million, but the multi-agency team produced them for Sh.70,000 each.

The entire project was estimated to cost Sh.7 billion, but through pooling of resources we’ve cut the cost to Sh.2 billion

Kenyatta  sanctioned the formation of the JNRM project in 2018, with representation from Government Agencies and Departments.

The team has updated 75 topographical maps, drawn six full county maps and digitized the cadastral plans for Nairobi City County.

Kenyatta directed the multi-agency task force to complete the project by November 2020.

The project will provide government agencies with the necessary information tools to enhance efficiency in service delivery.

“We reckon that the first step in Kenya’s journey to a better and brighter tomorrow begins by us knowing where we are as a nation, and what resources we have.” he said

He also directed relevant agencies to take advantage and fully embrace 21st century technologies to ensure that Kenya’s urban areas are well planned, orderly, and exhibit the standards of living that all Kenyans desire and deserve.
