Arsenal boss reveals how he plans to return to the Champions League

Unai Emery has admitted his team will have to make sure they win their next premier League games starting from Huddersfield on Saturday. The Gunners last won away from the Emirates in Bournemouth in November. They have picked up only two points in six games since – and were out-classed at Manchester City on Sunday.

The Gunners are desperate to return to the Champions League after missing out in the last two seasons. The north London side had been exceeding expectations this term but a disappointing few weeks have seen them slip to sixth in the Premier League table.

Huddersfield have lost both matches under new coach Jan Siewert – and have now lost 11 of their last 12 Premier League matches. Asked if his Arsenal side have got to beat the Terriers, Emery stated: “Yes”. The Spaniard added: “But it will be difficult. They are fighting to stay in the Premier League. “Their last results are not good but with the new coach, they are going to play with big ambition and good organisation.

“For us away, each match is a new challenge but it is a big possibility to take the three points and do better than we have been doing away.” Arsenal are now down to sixth and risk losing out on Champions League qualification for the third consecutive year to see Emery come under serious pressure for the first time since joining in the summer.

“My first criticism is myself,” he said. “I know work in the present and the future can change our way. “How we are doing away and away, we are with the possibility to reach the top four but we know it is not easy.

Emery made a solid start to that quest, with back-to-back defeats to open the season followed a lengthy run in which no setbacks were suffered across multiple competitions. Arsenal have, however, regressed to their inconsistent ways of late and, with little money being spent across two transfer windows, they are now playing catch up once more. Wright believes such a situation was always on the cards, with the faults masked early in the campaign now threatening to undermine the Gunners’ efforts.
