Arsenal has been slammed for the decision to sign Denis Suarez from Barcelona during the January transfer window by former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood.
Arsenal signed Suarez on loan until the end of the season with an option of making it permanent in the summer. The Spaniard made his debut against Manchester City, coming in in the second half as his new side went down 1-3 at Etihad. Sherwood slammed the club’s transfer policy, saying the Gunners ‘did not need’ to sign such player.
“Arsenal’s best assets are the ones they brought in. They paid top dollar for [Alexandre] Lacazette, [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, [Lucas] Torreira, [Matteo] Guendouzi but where are the academy players at Arsenal? They used to bring them through, used to give them an opportunity to play,” he said.
They don’t even play now, we don’t see them. They’re all loaned out. I just think there is no long-term plan. There is no short-term plan there certainly. If there was one player they didn’t need it was Denis Suarez. They needed a defender, they need to go all-out for a centre-half but they didn’t bring one in,” he added.
Emery’s men will take on bottom-placed Huddersfield on Saturday 9th.
