The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested rapper 21 Savage in Atlanta, Georgia early Sunday on claims that he was in the US illegally.
ICE claims that 21 Savage, born Shayaabin Abraham Joseph is a citizen of the UK. They go on to claim that Abraham Joseph entered the US legally when he was a minor in July, 2005. They add that he failed to leave the US when his Visa expired a year later in July, 2006.

In a statement through his lawyer, Kuck said, “We are working diligently to get Mr. Abraham Joseph out of detention while we work with the authorities to clear up any misunderstandings.”
He goes on, “Mr. Abraham Joseph is a role model to the young people in this country, especially in Atlanta, Georgia, and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy.”
Savage Persona
In all his life, Savage has never claimed that he was born in Atlanta.
His name ’21’ is in the honor of one the most famous street gangs in Atlanta-2100 Street Gang.
Along with fellow ATL hip hop superstars Future and Big Bank, 21 held a ‘Zone Six Day’ to help give kids back to school supplies.
Getting the Story right
The rapper through his lawyers Kuck did confirm that the rapper had overstayed his visa but also acknowledged that the rapper had applied for a renewal in 2017.
The immigration status was allegedly known to the government and that in 2017, 21 had applied for a U-Visa- available to those who are victims to crime in the US.
The news that Savage was a British shook the world, but the hip hp community has come to show support for one of their own.
