The society we are in today focus on training women to be ‘’prefect beings”. The only Woman empowerment wave has left the boy child clueless of what a modern woman is made of. Women are empowered to go to school, work hard, be smart, secure good job, build a strong career, follow their dreams, get a ‘suitable” man to marry you, dress well, fight acne, use anti-aging products, stay young, get a certain number of kids… I mean the list is endless. Trust me when you hear them talk about a ‘suitable guy’ or the ‘Mr. right’, the requirement list is endless and the man has no idea of what is required of him.
The today woman is not supposed to make mistakes. But who is perfect? No one of course! This is why a woman who hits 30+ years without a husband or gets a child out of wedlock becomes a laughing stock in the society. I mean the new culture teaches us to belittle the two kinds of women. It is quite unfortunate that we judge a woman too much when she makes these two bad “mistakes”, according to the society, yet the same society has set very high standards for an ordinary woman. It is a society of double standards, and I always watch the drama unfold with disappointment.
This culture and attitudes puts a woman under unnecessary pressure. Giving a compilation of manuals on
“how to identify Mr. Right and keep him”, a million and above ways to keep man”
The irony in all this is that the society is doing nothing to prepare the men and the Mr. Rights. Are they supposed to fall from heaven? Now as a woman tries to find the best match according to the society standards, of course by trying several guys, she meets her 39th year. Remember the society is not polishing the dudes so they are so random. At this point the family, the church, the neighborhood has all eyes on her. The question of ‘’when are you getting married begins to crack balls in her head, depression and if nothing of help is done, this woman is emotionally wrecked.
The case of young single girls getting pregnant and being kicked out of their families is escalating. The society punishes when it discovers the result of the mistake. The man in the picture in most cases goes Scot free. The woman becomes the punching bag. We forget that a man who doesn’t want to be responsible is out there enjoying his freedom. The truth is, for every child being raised by a single mom out there is a proof that an irresponsible man exists. The society must stop pressurizing women and start empowering men to be successful family men. Taking responsibility! this will militate cases of dead beats.
When we treat single young mothers as wicked, immoral, unfit for a wife, then we are idolizing the irresponsible breed of men. Every single mother deserves some respect not contemptuous attitude.
Being civilized is dropping the double standard in dictating the life of a woman and allowing her to grow through calculated steps of self-realization. The eyes of the society that looks at you contemptuously when you marry at 20 are the same eyes that will look you judgmentally when you hit 30 years without child. The same society that praises you for delaying getting babies are to follow your dream career is the same society that will scorn you when you get a baby before you complete studies. Woman, don”t look at yourself through the society’s looking glass.It is faulty!
