There several ways to becoming a millionaire in Kenya. That coveted list of who owns Kenya. I must admit that most of them did not earn their money througj the right chanells.
Sports betting has made some few people millionaires in the past few years, but that came at the expense of many who committed suicide after losing huge junks of money after bet kuchomeka.
That said, most millionaires got their money through connections with different government departments.
But imagine being a millionaire because of an incomplete abortion? Isn’t this the most weird way of joining the moneybags?
Well that is how best we can describe the story of Betty Wakio, who has been awarded sh. 2. 4 million by a Nairobi court.
The money is to be paid by the Mater Hospital which was sued for negligence that led to the perforation of the woman’s uterus.
According to court papers Wakio on September 13, 2013, visited KNH to see a gynaecologist but was referred to Mater Hospital. It emerged that she had suffered miscarriage which led to evacuation, she said.
After the evacuation was done she felt severe pain which she said forced her to go back to the hospital five days later. A CT scan was done which showed that she had a perforated uterus.
But Mater Hospital said the woman had aborted many pregnancies and had to undergo evacuation at different hospitals at least twice. The hospital denied liability, saying the woman suffered the perforation elsewhere and, therefore, the case against it is wrongfully before court.
The magistrate however ruled that the woman did not have a perforated uterus when she visited the hospital.
