Second hand car dealers in Kenya are not a happy lot after the Draft National Automobile policy proposed the limiting age of importing second hand cars to three yeas by the year 2021. The second hand automobile dealers voiced their concerns through their umbrella body the Kenya Auto Bazaar Association (Kaba) lamenting that the policy is discriminatory and will ultimately destroy their business.
The Kaba secretary Charles Munyori and chairperson Major (Rtd) John Kipchumba ia a joint statement published i the local dailies said that they strongly felt that the policy was discriminatory and designed to ‘finish’ the used car business in Kenya.
The association wants President Uhuru to block the implementation of he proposed policy. They further want the president to instruct Peter Munya, who is the Trade, Industry and Cooperatives cabinet secretary to urgently convene a meeting – involving automotive and manufacturing sectors- to formulate an iclusive policy that caters for all their interests.
The Kenya Auto Bazaar Association(Kaba) claims that it contributes Shs 49 billion in taxes and that the are a crucial player in the fulfillment of president Uhuru Big Four manufacturing agenda.
