Liverpool still lead the race for Premier League glory, but the momentum may well have shifted after Jurgen Klopp’s men were held to a second successive 1-1 draw.
Last week Liverpool had the chance to extend their lead at the summit to seven points, but were halted by Leicester. Tonight, in East London, the Merseyside outfit could only card an extremely controversial point against a spirited West Ham.
The Reds’ failure to convert another draw into a win subsequently breathed fresh life into the title race, with defending champions City only three points adrift of top spot, and Spurs a further two points behind in what has transformed into an engrossing three-horse race for the most coveted prize in England.
Liverpool may have dropped two more points in their pursuit of their first Premier League title, but you could make the argument that Klopp’s troops were fortunate to leave London with anything to their name, given that their goal was miles offside.
Mid-way through the first-half the officials somehow failed to see James Milner in the offside position, allowing Sadio Mane to round off the move with the opener. However, West Ham refused to drop their heads, and within just six minutes they were level through Michail Antonio.
Both teams had chances to bag the winner, but the score remained the same, much to the despair of Liverpool fans, and to the delight of their title rivals.
