Justice For Mercy! Family demands answers to the death of Kenyan Musician Living in Abroad

Netherlands-based Kenyan musician found dead, body dumped in ditch

A Kenyan family is still trying to come to terms with the mysterious death of their loved one who passed away in the Netherlands. Mercy Wanjiku Muthui’s body was found abandoned in a ditch boardering the background garden of the house where she lived with her German husband Daniel Erhardt.

Initially Daniel had reported Mercy missing on January 13, but was later detained by police soon afterwards as investigations commenced to established whether the death was a murder or suicide. Mercy’s husband would go on to stay in police custody for the next three days.

The late Mercy’s sister Bilha Muthui however suspects foul play in the death of her sibling, who shared a 5-month old baby with Daniel. Bilha analysed that it was very suspect for a body to be found very shortly after Mercy’s husband reported his wife missing.

“According to the media, Erhardt had reported that his wife was not in bed next to him when he woke up and appeared as if she was not at home but it took the police a few minutes search when they found her body in a ditch,” she said as quoted by Nation.

What was even more suspicious was the fact that Daniel took it upon himself to cremate the remains of Mercy, without the consent of her family who reside in Jericho, Nairobi. According to the deceased’s husband, he was unable to raise the KSh 1.2 million needed to ship her body back to Kenya as an online campaigh only managed to raise KSh 275,000. Her body was cremated on Friday, February 1, against the family’s wishes. The late Mercy had barely stayed in the Netherlands for three years as she only moved there in 2016 after a colorful wedding ceremony.
