In the African culture, it’s a taboo for a woman to get married to two men.
However,the norm seems to have been broken in Zambia, where two twins are said to have married one wife.
In video that went viral shows the twins and the woman purported to be their wife are seen kneeling on a mat, each with a wedding ring.
A man is seen doing a Zulu dance followed by one of the husbands doing the same dance that marks the culmination of a wedding ceremony in the country.
According to Zambia women, women should be allowed to take a second husband as it was okay for a man to take a second wife.
The pictures have received varying opinions on social media, with some claiming that the woman married only one brother and that the other one was simply there for ceremonial purposes.
“No, she’s not married to both. The other twin is there for ceremonial purposes because in most African countries twins do things together,” said Twitter user Mthwakazi, while Mbilozigede said: “Correction, she is not married to both twins, but it is customarily when one twin weds the other would be present next to him, cause they are treated as one. When the other weds, same will be done, it happens all the time it’s not polyandry as others would fantasise.”
In August last year , a group of Shembe women writing to the judicial council, saying asking for the same status as male members which includes the church’s marriage policy. if a man was allowed to take another wife, women should be allowed to have two husbands.
