Who is importing Shisha?Months after the ban and it is still in the market and Kenyan circles.
The Ban of Shisha in Kenya is still part of the conversation despite the fact that it was effective as of last year.
In a notice that was then issue in regard to ban, there was a clear indication that;
“No person shall import, manufacture, sell, offer for sale, use, advertise, promote or distribute shisha in Kenya.”
“No person shall allow, promote, facilitate or encourage or do anything to allow, promote, facilitate or encourage shisha smoking in Kenya,” the legal notice reads.
However the implementation of this ban has been crippled by many factors with some Kenyans who might still be importing and the flavored tobacco.
Earlier today, top leaders and stakeholder had an engagement meeting on Shisha ban in Kenya.
Some of the people in attendance include, NACADA Director Chipukeezy, Ministry of Health officials who met at the Nomad Hotel, Eastleigh.
A vocal Kenyan asked the authorities to not only ban shisha but also stop the importation of it.
The conversation that has also been making headlines in the past few days is the demand by Shisha traders that the ban may be lifted.
The traders and users termed the ban as punitive, saying that it had led to loss of jobs and business as well.
The traders also requested the government to regulate the issue licenses to shisha traders instead of issuing a blanket ban.
Following the remarks that came from the vocal Kenyans who participated in today’s forum there is clearly a push and pull in regard to this ban.
Some however maintain that tougher conditions should be put in place to ensure that the ban is implemented as it should.
