Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hints at the secret to Manchester United’s success

Ole Gunnar Solskjær has made an incredible start to life at Manchester United taking 19 points from a possible 21 in the Premier League.

If United win at Leicester on Sunday, Solskjaer will have won the same amount of league games as Jose Mourinho this season in half the amount of games.

Under former boss, Mourinho, United were a stuttering and dysfunctional mess but Solskjær has unleashed the attacking potential of his side since his reign at Old Trafford began.

Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, in particular, have flourished under the attacking philosophy Solskjær has instilled and Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, who were also struggling for confidence and form, now look revitalised.

The pair both put in stylish performances at the Emirates as United beat Arsenal 3-1 in the FA Cup, with Sanchez opening the scoring and Lukaku assisting two of the goals.

The statistics from Solskjær’s side are frightening and Leicester City, a team that has not kept a clean sheet in four Premier League games, will need to be prepared for waves of interchanging and potent United attack.

Since the Norwegian took over no side has won more points (19), scored more Premier League goals (19), had more shots (121) or created more chances (87) than United.

And Solskjær hinted the success is down to ‘pace and power’.

He said: “Pace and power – that’s what we are. When you have players like we have with pace – Paul (Pogba), Anthony (Martial), Alexis (Sanchez), Romelu (Lukaku), Marcus Rashford – that’s how we played with Andy (Cole), Dwight Yorke, Ryan Giggs and Becks (David Beckham) down the sides. We attack quickly when you can. That’s my philosophy as well.”

Solskjær understands United fans crave attacking football and when appointed he stated what would define his tenure a success, explaining: “Get to summer and people are talking about the way Manchester United are playing, the style we’re playing, that it reminds us of Sir Alex Ferguson’s teams, it reminds us of the successful times.”
