Did Arsenal try to con star player?

Arsenal conned Ivan Perisic with a fake offer during the January transfer window, Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti has hinted

The Gunners were interested in Inter Milan’s winger but the two parties failed to reach an agreement. Arsenal wanted to bring Perisic at the Emirates on loan but Milan held firm as they wanted to let the Croatian leave only on a permanent deal. After the move broke down, the Gunners secured a loan move for Denis Suarez from Barcelona.

Perisic had already submitted a transfer request amid reports linking him with a move to the Premier League side and he was forced to train alone.

“There was this story on the market, but he is a professional, understands his role and yesterday it was already a very different mood. These things happen in the transfer window, the player received an impressive proposal and was tempted,” he said.

“However, he then realized it was not a true offer, that he’d been conned, and took a step back. Now he’ll resume training and as soon as his mind is back fully on Inter, we’ll let him play,” he added.

On failing to land either Perisic or Yannick Carrasco, Unai Emery blocked Eddie Nketiah’s loan move to Bundesliga side Augsburg.
