Why Chelsea star missed 4-0 loss to Bournemouth

Despite scoring in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday, Maurizio Sarri dropped Callum Hudson-Odoi from the squad that faced Bournemouth revealing that team balance was the reason for his omission.

Hudson-Odoi has been heavily linked with a move to German champions Bayern Munich and has had his transfer request rebuffed by Chelsea. The London club has had to turn down four bids from Bayern including one that matched the youngster’s asking price. Hudson-Odoi watched from the stands as Chelsea were thumped 4-0 by Bournemouth on Wednesday 20thJanuary.

Speaking in a post-match press conference after the defeat to Bournemouth, Sarri explained Hudson-Odoi’s absence, “He was with us. But he played three days ago. So on the bench there was Willian. But we could play only with two wingers. So, in your opinion, I have to put off Pedro, Hazard or Willian? He played a few days ago, he will play in the future, but we have four wingers: two on the pitch, one on the bench, and one not in the squad.”
