COURT ORDERS Sun Africa Hotels to pay Sh31.9m to family of Chinese woman killed by hippo in 2013 while on holiday at one of their Naivasha hotels.
According to residents who live near the hotel, the animal trampled on the Chinese man.
They said the hippo emerged from Lake Naivasha, which is next to the hotel, and attacked the tourist who was taking a walk in the compound.
The animal charged toward him, tossed him to the ground and eventually trampled him to death.
Naivasha deputy police boss Paul Mengich confirmed the incident and urged tourists to avoid going near the lake saying water levels have risen and wild animals could be anywhere.
