Alvaro Morata is set to undergo medical on Sunday at Atletico Madrid before finishing his loan move away from Chelsea.
The arrival of Gonzalo Higuain could push Morata to the periphery more as that means he will have very limited chances for the first team. Manager Maurizio Sarri has been using Eden Hazard as a ‘false 9’ even when the Spaniard was fit for action.
Morata was initially signed by Antonio Conte for five years in a then-club-record £57m fee in July 2017 but has been rather a pale shadow of his former self.
He finished with just 11 goals for Chelsea in the Premier League even after starting with seven goals in eight matches at the start of his debut season. Chelsea have the option to extend the loan deal for a season or buy Higuain outright for £31m, according to Juventus at the end of the season.
