Why Arsenal have not been starting Lacazette and Auba

After alternate starts last year, Arsenal manager Unai Emery has revealed why it is a challenge starting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette together.

Since the turn of the year Lacazette and Aubameyang have enjoyed more game time together as they have both been in the starting line up in five of the last seven games. Lacazette was the club’s first choice striker when he arrived from Olympique Lyon but soon found himself a substitute with the arrival of Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund.

Emery revealed why the two have found it hard to start together, “I started Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together against Chelsea. I’m finding and working to take the best balance with every player and sometimes they can play together. In other matches it is impossible to play together, because we need another idea with the system or playing with one attacking player.

“But we are very happy with them and I think they can help us in defensive situations. Above all, Aubameyang can also play on the right or left and when he was playing in different positions, right or left, the most important attribute was his mentality. He said to me ‘Yes I am going to do that’.”
