Why Unai Emery Wants Rid Of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey

That is the opinion of Manchester United and England legend Gary Neville, who has predicted how long it will take for the Gunners to be able to challenge for the title again.

Arsenal playmaker Ozil has endured a disappointing year since signing a mega new deal, with his on-pitch performances failing to live up to his £350,000-a-week wages.

And he has been shunned plenty of times by Emery, with tactical reasons and supposed injuries given as vague explanations for his absences.

Speculation has seen Inter Milan credited with interest in Ozil, with team-mate Ramsey all set for Serie A in the mean time.

Ramsey is due to join reigning champions Juventus once his Arsenal contract expires at the end of the season.

Neville has now offered his verdict on why Emery is happy for Mesut Ozil and Ramsey to leave the Emirates in the summer.

“Having said [Arsenal are improving], Emery needs four or five transfer windows to get things right,” Neville told the Daily Mail.

“It does not surprise me that Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are on the way out.

“Emery wants players that can transform the club so he has to be able to ship players out, to be able to correct things.

“It is like a cultural shift, a big mentality shift.

“But he needs to do that and needs time.”

Emery has come in for criticism as Arsenal have experienced mixed form since their 22-game unbeaten streak came to an end.

Neville, though, has defended the 47-year-old and told Arsenal to get behind the former Sevilla gaffer.

“He is a massively talented coach, spoken of so highly in Spain,” Neville added.

“Valencia had 15 managers in 13 years but he was there for four years.

“They still talk about how good he was.He is a top coach and Arsenal have to support him.”

Arsenal face a big test of their mettle on Friday night as they welcome Manchester United to town.

The old rivals go head-to-head at the Emirates in a fourth-round FA Cup encounter.

Arsenal overcame League One outfit Blackpool to reach that stage, with United beating Championship side Reading.
