Premier League side Manchester United is interested in bring Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta to Old Trafford.
However, the Red Devils risk missing out of Berta after Madrid offered him a new bumper deal to ward off interests from other clubs.
Mirror reports United wants Berta to join their backroom team after building an impressive reputation in the Spanish side. He is seen as a key part of Madrid’s success in recent years, including winning La Liga in 2014 and reaching the Champions League final in 2014 and 2016.
He initially joined the club from Genoa in 2012, having been recruited by former Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon. Following the departure of Jose Mourinho in December, Man United are considering recruiting a sporting director and Berta is top of their list.
Fabio Paratici, who performs the same role for Juventus, is another on the shortlist should Berta opt to remain in Spain.
