Uganda police has spoken on alerts circulation on social media on a planned attack by Violent kemunto who conspired to ambush Dusit D2 complex.
The police has asked the public to disregard terror alerts circulating social media of an impending terror attack.
Kampala dwellers were on Monday morning treated to a terror scare after unknown people circulated text messages, audios and social media alerts urging them to remain at home because Al-Shabaab terrorists were planning to hit the city in two weeks.
Other texts alleged that up to four terrorists had been apprehended by security personnel and explosives and bullets found.
The messages indicated that Kemunto, aka Khadija, a woman associated with Ali Salim Gichunge had entered the country armed with explosives and bullets.
The alert described her as a dangerous person, who kills without mercy; and who is wanted by Kenyan police.
It was claimed that her last phone records were traced to Uganda.
Uganda police spokesperson Fred Enanga refuted the allegations citing they were false and aimed at causing panic and destabilising businesses.
“Police have noted with serious concern falsified terror alerts that is being spread on social warning of terror attack two weeks from the Nairobi incident. We want the public to disregard such alerts which are meant to give publicity to terrorists.
“Police will only release information, including terror alerts, upon accurate and honest acknowledgement of any real threats,” he told NBS TV.
The police boss further stated there were no specific threats in Uganda but security agencies would carry on with their surveillance and share information with their regional counterparts.
