The appointment of Fred Matiang’i to head Key Government portfolios and projects continue to draw mixed reactions with the latest to have a say on the matter being Migori Senator Ochillo Ayacko.

Ayacko has said the appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to a supervisory role across the government will help shift focus back to the Big Four Agenda.

Ayacko said the move by President Uhuru Kenyatta to radically reorganise his administration and establish a four-tier executive authority will help cool the waters on early 2022 campaigns which had started.

The senator lauded the move saying it was in line with the handshake between Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

“There is no politics in what the president did. Sadly most Kenyans have seen it as so but the move will develop the country,” Ayacko said.

He said the move will streamline service delivery as a section of leaders in the country thought development would stop with politics.

“Time will never stop waiting for 2022. We know of leaders who started moving around campaigning while Kenyans wanted the peace and unity accorded by handshake to bring development,” Ayacko said.

In a thinly veiled attack on Deputy President William Ruto, Ayacko said only those who have been in the “Tanga Tanga movement” see politics behind the president’s move.

The elevation of Matiang’i is likely to whittle down Ruto’s influence.

The CS will take charge of the implementation and monitoring of all development projects initiated and funded by the national government through a new Cabinet sub-committee.
