Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has again insisted he is happy with his existing squad despite injuries to Harry Kane, Dele Alli and being without Heung-Min Son who is at the Asia Cup.

During this transfer window, the club have been linked with a string of potential new recruits but he again reiterated that finding the right player in January to join an established squad was extremely difficult.

“It’s going to be difficult, as I told you in the past,” Pochettino told reporters today. “If it was difficult in the summer because in the end we had the squad full. We didn’t have space to sign players because we didn’t sell players. Now of course it’s difficult too.”

Reacting to a question from a Sky Sports reporter he explained: “I think this transfer window is always the most difficult transfer window and you know very well because I’m seeing you every day.

“There are not too many transfers, with a lot of loans. It’s difficult to find the right players for all the clubs. Of course we’re Tottenham and to find the right profile to help us I think is going to be difficult. But we’re trying, we’re trying to deliver something.

Tottenham take on Chelsea tomorrow looking to defend their 1-0 semi-final first leg lead in the Carabao Cup.

When asked again about his squad, Pochettino replied bluntly: “Look, different clubs, I was talking before I saw Liverpool is now in Dubai and all the pundits say Liverpool have the best squad with Manchester City.

“We are still involved in four competitions, what happens tomorrow and what happens Sunday I am still happy with my squad. I think to arrive in that situation after a very difficult summer when you assess everything that happened in the last seven months I think our players are heroes.

“We are going to be there trying to win the game (against Chelsea), but we cannot, winning or losing, say that we don’t have enough squad to be involved or to arrive at the end of the season fighting in four competitions. That is football. It is circumstance. You can win with one or another names and lose with one or another names. I don’t want to put up an excuse. We need to go there and be brave and try to win. If we win we are going to say well done, if not we will congratulate the opponent and keep going because I think this season so far has been a fantastic season”.
