How Taita Taveta County is reaping big on Devolution

Governor Samboja has today been commended for his efforts and contribution in boosting the education sector.

Since took over office there has been an increase of beneficiaries for both bursaries and scholarship due to enhanced allocation from Kes. 50M in the 2017/2018 Financial Year to Kes. 150M in the 2018/2019 Financial Year

The Taita Taveta County Education Fund is established through an Act of the county Assembly to assist needy students residing in Taita Taveta County.

Although bursaries and sponsorship programs may not be enough to secure the education of all the students, it is important to prioritize their education. Earlier today Kes. 40M was disbursed and each ward shall receive Kes. 2M.

In 2018, term one the county government spent Kes. 3M on 71 students under the county government’s full scholarship.

In 2019, Kes. 4.507M was spent on 159 students as school fees translating to 33.4% increase. The increase in number of scholarship beneficiaries from 71 in 2018 to 159 in 2019 translates to 55.34% increase.

Kenyans have suggested that for the county to make effective and efficient use of its human and untapped natural resources leaders should continue to be on the front-line to  have programs that will support more students.

From the voices of Kenyans, The Taita Taveta County Education Fund initiative has given many parents and young people a sigh of relief and hope.

They have also got a platform to air other challenges facing the education sector that need be dealt with.

The residents believe that their county is reaping big on devolution and these matters will be addressed.
