From Wheelbarrows to Footbridges! Some of the crazy Projects initiated by Kenyan governors since 2013

Kenyans are up in arms against their county governors, whom they have accused of using public funds on things that don’t matter. Under the hashtag

#TheseGovernors, netizens have exposed some of the most stupid projects that the county bosses have launched or initiated since 2013. Here we look at some very hilarious things that you won’t believe even existed:

1. Former Kirinyaga Governor Joseph Ndathi once opened a multi million bridge that connects East to West. He even had a hype man whistle to his success.

2. Early this year Nyeri county proposed a 200m house for the governor and…wait for it…a 20m GATE!! Yes…A GATE worth KSH. 20 MILLION

3. Under the leadership of John Nyagarama, Nyamira county lost Ksh. 1.16 million every month to ’24 ghost workers’. Calculate that in 3 year.

4. It once costed Nyamira County government Ksh 7 million to construct a gate leading to Nyamira the hospital. Someone even wondered if it auto-detect an illness and issue preliminary diagnosis?

5. Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka once bought 10 wheelbarrow for the county…wait for it….EACH cost the county Sh109,320! “A wheelbarrow in an ordinary market is Sh5,000.

6. This is a bridge in Bomet county that cost taxpayers a whooping 8.4 million. Same contractor is said to have 4 more sub-standard bridges in the county. Si hiyo ni kirimino

7. December 2017 last year in the heat of the election aftermath, a Mt. Kenya Governor offered to circumcise boys who had finished class 8 and are from poor backgrounds. It seemed kind, until it was discovered the cost was set at 75,000/- per boy!

8. Youthful Nandi Governor Stephen Sang cannot contain his excitement when a yellow thigh passes. He has hired at least 250 young girls to positions that do not exist raising the county’s wage bill by millions.

9. This is Trans Nzoia Ultra Modern Stage that was initiated 4years ago with a budget of 600M.Upto now the white Elephant project has not been completed.

10. Nyandarua Governor spent 46 million on foreign travels to study/benchmark sewerage systems for a rural county in which every homestead has a pit latrine.
