Kiplimo Lagat makes history at the 16th Mumbai marathon in India

One team that never fails to fly the Kenyan flag high are the country’s athletes. Even in this trying time where many are strugglig to keepit together and recollect themselves since the Alshabaab invention of the Nation to create fear, they still manage to bring good news to us.

 Kenyan athlete Cosmas Kiplimo Lagat has set a record at the 16th Mumbai Marathon in India.

Lagat, who is a former Seville Marathon winner, won the race on Sunday after clocking 2:09:15 and consequently pocketing Ksh4.5 million.

His winning time became the second best record in the entire 16-year history of the Marathon.

Lagat started splitting up from the leading pack just before hitting 29km by creating a significant gap between himself and his rivals.

His record came second after Gideon Kipketer’s 2:08:35 in the 2016 Mumbai Marathon which remains unchallenged.

During the Sunday’s race, Ethiopia’s Aychew Bantie and Aklnew Shumet finished second and third respectively with times of 2:10:05 and 2:10:14.
