Electric fault leads to destruction of massive property in Nyeri

All the way from Gikomba to Nyeri a fire calamity has found its way to a residence mostly occupied by college youths jeopardizing their life through the inferno.

An enormous fire reportedly broke out at Kwa Jolly, Ngangarithi area in Nyeri County around midday hours sucessfully burning down many houses.

The fire razed down over 40 houses in the area believed to be dominantly resided by youth from the Nyeri National Polytechnic.

The residents, however, lauded the swift action taken by the Nyeri county who sent a fire fighting engine to the scene.

“The county government was quick to join in fighting the fire, taking around 15 minutes to get to the scene,” one resident confirmed.

The firemen managed to contain the inferno, despite having to rush back to town after running out of water which delayed the process.

No deaths or casualties have been reported so far. However, a few victims were rushed to hospital after they fainted due to the billowing smoke.

Property of unknown worth was destroyed, with residents managing to salvage only a few household items.

While the cause of the fire has not been officially established, residents believe it was caused by an electric fault.

“We had a problem with electric power yesterday. The lights kept turning on and off, even destroying a few of our electric appliances,” a resident confirmed.
