Gonzalo Higuain Asked About January Chelsea Transfer – Here’s What He Said

Higuain is set to join Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season and could extend the deal by a further 12 months if things work out.

He came off the bench in AC Milan’s clash with his parent club Juventus last night in the Supercoppa Italiana.

But it’s understood an agreement is close and he could complete the move early next week.

And, in the airport as Milan headed back to Italy, he was met by reporters who tried to quiz him on the move.

But he said: “Were you all waiting for me? If you want to create mess [regarding the Chelsea transfer], I’m not the right person for you in this sense.”

Chelsea have concerns over the deal due to his age and the finances involved.

But Maurizio Sarri appears to have won his battle and got his man.

Higuain and Sarri teamed up at Napoli and were hugely succesful.

The Argentina international then joined Juventus in 2016 but was loaned to AC Milan at the start of the current season where he has scored eight goals in 22 appearances this term.

And Sarri hopes Higuain can replace Alvaro Morata and add to the fire power at the club as they battle for a place in the top four.

Morata has struggled this term and looks set to leave as soon as the Higuain deal is confirmed.

Italian football expert Gabriele Marcotti thinks Milan will sign Krzysztof Piatek from Genoa to replace Higuain.

“He’s scored a ton of goals but sometimes he sits on the bench for Genoa because he’s one of those guys that sort of scores with every touch and not do much else,” Marcotti said.

“But then again he’s still young.

“I don’t know, to me this is a bit of a gamble.

“He’s one of those guys who might be a half-season wonder or people used to underrate Harry Kane as well.

“But he is one of those guys that people look at say ‘what’s the big deal?’ until you look at his goal tally.

“For me it’s a question of price.

“Personally I don’t think, particularly if Higuain goes and Milan get a striker, they shouldn’t go for that sort of gamble.

“The only circumstance under which Piatek comes to Milan is if Higuain goes.”
