Mistaken Identity? Police unconditionally release Riverside attack suspect

Police on Wednesday released a man who was arrested in a case of mistaken identity during the Dusit attack.

Bryson Mwamburi, a Jomo Kenyatta University student was apprehended on Tuesday as a suspect.

Mwamburi who was in the complex during the al Shabaab attack had earlier tweeted about the incident.

The complex has about 1,500 people, workers and hotel residents.

A total of 511 people rescued by Tuesday evening while another 174 people rescued during Tuesday night.

“Guys terrorists are shooting at Riverside Drive. Call the police and pray for me,” Mwamburi tweeted.


He had been detained at the Kileleshwa police station.

“Morning guys, I have been released unconditionally. Ever grateful for the concern all of you have shown, pushing my case on social media, visiting Kileleshwa police and the tonnes of legal assistance I have received. I shall write about this once things settle. Thank You All. My workmates too have suffered no fatalities. Gratitude is a must,” he tweeted on Wednesday.

After the video of him being apprehended and escorted to a police van doing rounds on social media, Twitter users started a hashtag asking for his release.

Earlier, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the operation at 14 Riverside Drive is over and 14 lives were lost during the attack.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, Uhuru said the security operation ended at about 9.30am.
