Meet the Fearless GSU Commandant who co-ordinated the Dusit Operation

The Kenyan security agencies have been commended for their timely response to the Dusit Hotel Terror attack. President Kenyatta announced on Wednesday morning that all the terrorists had been neutralized by the police force.

But who is the man who was at the heart of the entire operation that saw 14 Kenyans loss their lives at the hands of cowardly terrorists? It has now been revealed that GSU commandant Douglas Kirocho Kanja was the head of Operations at 14 Riverside Drive.

Kanja was appointed the GSU commandant in August last year. He was at one time the Kilifi County Police boss.

Before his appointment, he was the deputy commandant in GSU  and took over from Stephen Chelimo who has retired from the service after attaining the mandatory age. GSU is the single biggest, elite and key unit in police operations.

Meanwhile President Kenyatta has urged the country to get back to work “without fear and continue with our work of building our nation.”

The President said 14 people have been confirmed dead and several others are receiving treatment in different hospitals in Nairobi. Over 700 have been rescued from the office block and the DusitD2 hotel.

Kenyatta also applauded Kenyans for their handling of the information and images being shared through various online platforms.

“I also commend the civilians who looked after one another. For every act of evil that led to injury yesterday, there were a dozen acts of compassion, overflowing patriotism and individual courage,” said the Head of
