The MP has been at loggerheads with Mt. Kenya leaders after his controversial statements in Thika on the eve of the new year. He accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Jubilee government of neglecting the region when it comes to development matters and only going there to launch rehabilitated drunkards.

The President reacted by telling him (Kuria) to leave him alone. Hawa washenzi waachane na mimi. Several Mt. Kenya leaders have come out to rebuke Kuria and defend the Jubilee government. Kuria said the leaders were trying to use him to revive their political careers.
